Contractors State License Board Targeting Large Projects

In most cases, the California Contractor's State License Board targets smaller at home projects and smaller companies. It is not often that the bigger guys have to deal with the CSLB in regards to fines and improper permits. Though most operations have been focused on smaller operations in the past, the CSLB has recently been focusing on larger projects that are widely commercial. Focusing on commercial projects is a way for the CSLB to make quite a bit more money when it comes to fines.

In April, the CSLB stopped work on a $150 million commercial project in San Diego, CA due to the fact that the sub-contractor did not have a license. The subcontractor alone was fined around $79,000. Earlier this month, the CSLB made an announcement that they were halting work on a $100 million commercial project housed in Los Angeles because the subcontractor was again not licensed. The subcontractor in this case was fined $195,000; on top of that, the contractor was fined $10,000. It is larger commercial contracts like these that bring in the most fines. It is not widely known what other projects are under scrutiny but they are sure to be focusing on several other commercial projects.
