Thought up by Jane Ubell Meyer, Bedside Reading matches up books and hotels so that guests are welcomed into their rooms with a stack of new titles to read through. Guests are even invited to take the books home with them at the end of their stay. Meyer explains that the hotels are chosen to participate in this project based on exclusivity, price-point, luxury, demographics, clientele, and so on. The books offered in the program are hand selected by a team of avid readers and then submitted for approval by each hotel partner. Meyer states that the program tries to supply each hotel with enough books to replenish the rooms for a month. Additionally, the program works directly with many big-name publishers to get their hands on the newest, most interesting reads available. Meyer states, €œBooks are 100% free, no charge. We want the guests to add the books to their own libraries or pass them along. Word of mouth is one of the best ways to promote books, and the guests staying at these hotels are influencers, VIP's, celebrities, and C-Suite executives. We know they are readers and we wanted to create a unique guest amenity that they would really appreciate. I love to quote Lin Manuel Miranda's words in Hamilton, €œI want to be in the room where it happens. -Well, our books are in the rooms where it happens!€ According to Meyer, guests and hotels alike are loving the Bedside Reading program, and she is currently working to expand their services to other hotels across the country. She also claims that a children's Bedside Reading program is also in the works.
