Starwood Plans to Hoist Flags Over Cuban Hotels

The Stamford, CT-based hotel will hoist the flags of its Luxury Collection and Four Points in Cuba by Sheraton brands over the properties later this year.

Starwood is partnering with the Gran Caribe to rebrand the landmark Hotel Inglaterra as a member of the Luxury Collection. Starwood is one of the world's largest hotel companies and owns many prestigious hotels located all over the planet's best locations. When the flag is hoisted, the hotel will offer 83 rooms as an official Luxury Hotel. The company has signed an agreement with Grupo de Turismo Gaviota S.A., owner of Hotel Quinta Avenida in Havana's Miramar district. The hotel will be open to business travelers with around 186 room keys. Starwood has signed a letter of intent with Habaguanex, owner of Hotel Santa Isabel, to convert the 19th century colonial-style palace to a member of the Luxury Collection; this action is pending Treasury Department approval. These deals follow last month's agreement between the US and Cuba to resume round-trip flights between the two countries for the first time in over 50 years, as well as negotiations between Starwood and the US government. Their plan is to “cultivate local talent, provide career enriching opportunities, and locally source art, décor, food, and materials to ensure we deliver authentic experiences.” Know where to travel if you want to save money, or purchase a couple of night's in the best locations in the world.
