Advancements in PTAC Technology Offers New Options for Hotels Advancements in PTAC Technology Offers New Options for Hotels

New PTAC units allow for expanded air conditioning options for hoteliers.

Recently, the hotel industry has been undergoing a technological revolution.  One area where advancements have been made is in packaged thermal air conditioner (PTAC) technology.  With units now quieter, more energy-efficient, and smarter than ever, hotels have a host of new options.  Here are some of the major advancements being made in PTAC technology.
  • Inverter-Type PTAC Units
One of the next major advancements in PTAC technology is the introduction of inverter-type units.  As the name suggests, these units use inverters to handle air cooling and heating.  Unlike traditional units that either run full speed or not at all, inverter units can run at variable outputs.  For instance, while they can run at full speed, they also have the ability to run at one-half or one-quarter speed as well.  The ability to run at variable outputs makes it easier to maintain guestroom comfort while simultaneously lowering energy costs.
  • Internet-Connected Units
Another development in PTAC technology is the ability to convert existing hotel heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems so they can interact with the cloud.  Once connected, PTAC units can track the preferred climate of the guest.  Hotel owners can use this information to keep the guest's room at their favored temperature, increasing their comfort and eliminating the energy wasted when units run constantly.
  • Remote Management
Finally, on-board controls and advanced thermostats allow hotel owners to control guestroom air conditioning units remotely.  This allows the hotel owner to turn off the unit when the guest is out of the room and reactivate it when the guest returns.  Not only is this a convenient way to save on energy costs, but it also ensures that a guest can walk into their room and immediately feel comfortable with the temperature. These are some of the major advancements in PTAC technology and how these innovations maximize guest comfort and energy efficiency.  Does your hotel need upgrades to support new technologies?   For assistance with your next renovation project, contact Nikki Fox at Parkwest General Contractors at Nikki@ParkwestGC.com.  Our dedicated team is eager to assist you with all your building upgrade needs today.
