Title 24 of California's building code is part of the state's plan for new commercial construction to reach zero net energy by the year 2030. CALGreen uses three levels, or tiers, of energy efficiency and counties and cities can choose the level required in local building code enforcement.
The California Building Energy Efficiency Standards covers plug loads, whole building energy use and lighting requirements. Zero net energy construction means that the building will have a no carbon emissions and no net energy consumption.
The Energy Efficiency Standards were scheduled to go into effect on January 1, 2014. Delays in the development of the Energy Code Compliance software has resulted in a change of the implementation date. In order to allow for the time required for building designers and the construction industry to meet requirements, the effective date has been moved to July 1, 2014.
The delay includes California Energy Code, Part 6, the Administrative Code, Part 1, Chapter 10 and CALGreen, Part 11. Even with the deadline extension, your business should try to comply with the law as quickly as possible.
