Hawaii Properties Fall to Californians Hawaii Properties Fall to Californians

Californians keep buying property in Hawaii.

Outside of Hawaii itself, California remained the top state to purchase residential real estate on the Islands of Aloha in 2015. With an incredible $1.3 billion spent on a total 1,534 properties throughout the state. Worry not Hawaiians: Hawaii, of course, remains the top state to buy property in Hawaii, totaling $8.3 billion in 2015; dwarfing California's total. “Local buyers remain the dominant player in Hawaii real estate, though included within that data [are] both foreign and domestic entities registered to do business in the state.” In 3rd place came Washington, which passed Texas after it held 2nd place last year. Washington had 344 purchases for a total of $271.8 million—five times less than California, and thirty times less than Hawaii. Texas saw its purchases fall from $205.1 million (313 purchases) in 2014 to $145.4 million (260 purchases) just last year. In 2015, Hawaii property purchases increased by ~11 percent going from $10.1 billion in 2014, to $11.4 billion.
