International Tourism Grows Optimism for Hospitality Industry International Tourism Grows Optimism for Hospitality Industry

The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has some good news for those who benefit from international tourism. In the first nine months of 2013, international tourism has grown worldwide by 5%.  That growth exceeded the expectations of the organization, and it amounts to 845 million international travelers. That is about 41 million more than in the same period in 2012. According to UNWTO Secretary-General Taleb Rafai, “…the tourism sector, undoubtedly, (is) one of the engines of the economic recovery.”

Tourism receipts are also showing exceptional growth. Top destinations include Thailand at +28%, Japan at +23%,  The United Kingdom at +18%, and Greece at +15%. The United States also showed significant growth in receipts in the first six to ten months of 2013, showing an 11% increase.

This is another positive indication of an improving economy by another sector, a sector that directly affects those in the hospitality industry. If you need help in the Western US, please contact Ed LaCivita or Craig Sullivan at Parkwest General Contractors.
