The semi-annual Consensus Construction Forecast from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) have released their projections for the next decade and predict an increase in spending by more than 8 percent in 2016.
The survey predicts healthy growth levels and a continued demand for hotels, office space, manufacturing areas, and recreation spaces.
Rising interest levels are projected to rise and could pose a challenge to the U.S. economy in later years, but lower energy prices, improved employment figures, and Congress deciding to do its job and enacting a budget for 2016 are all factoring into a very favorable outlook for construction. The footing that the institutional project sector is finally standing on compact, solid footing.
The leading architects in the nation have been surveyed, and they predict nonresidential design trends for the next decade. Water conservation, solar and wind power generation, the specification of innovative building materials, the increased use of natural daylight, Building Information Modeling software use, and alternative delivery methods are all trends which are predicted to come to the new buildings that are designed and built within the next 10 years.
Kermit Baker, AIA Chief Economist, said: “Emerging technologies are becoming the dominant force in how building are being designed.†Buildings are more energy efficient than every before and will only continue to do so as new technologies are increasing energy efficiency of the people and the way the project will be delivered.
