Chapman University has at long last opened a new research center that focuses on the biopsychsocial approaches to health, called the Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences Center of Excellence in Biopsychosocial Approaches to Health.
This new research center would be the very first “center of excellence†in Chapman's two-year-old Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences and is located on the campus in the city of Orange. It takes an interdisciplinary approach to understanding health and well-being, according to the school. Chapman University calls it a “center of excellence†since it is an institution that provides leadership, best practices, research, and support for a specific area of focus.
Janeen Hill, the founding dean of the Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences, says “the unifying focus of the campus is to examine the combined effects of biology, psychology, and social context on psychological and physical health.â€
The center is committed to research that advances basic science and has implications for public policy. It plans on making findings from its research available to the public to help improve science literacy among Americans, which is already at worryingly low levels. The science that will be released here will be of health and science.
The center was formally inaugurated with a lecture by Dr. Ted Robles of UCLA on October 24, 2016.Research centers serve good purposes as they help educate the general public in whatever branch of education to which the center is dedicated. The only way a society can progress is with educated citizens. As citizens become more educated, our society progresses.
