Transforming Fisherman's Wharf into a boutique hotel center.
The Hilton located by San Francisco's famed Fisherman's Wharf has recently undergone major changes. The hotel now goes by the new name, The Pier 2620 Hotel. As part of a growing movement to attract a younger demographic of traveler, the once known Hilton has become a boutique hotel.
Different from the attraction of well know, comfortable big name hotels, boutique hotels offer unique designs that create a whole travel experience for their guests. The shift in accommodations is being adopted by bigger named hotels as a way to compete in the ever-changing tourism market.
The renovation of the Fisherman's Wharf centered hotel has been a long process. The $17 million renovation, which has just been completed,  began in 2013 after the property was acquired by Fillmore Hospitality LLC. The transformation included the renovation of the lobby, gym, 233 guest rooms, and  the addition of a lounge.
Designed by Chicago design firm Anderson/Miller, Ltd, the Pier 2620 Hotel strives to incorporate San Francisco style in their designs. The goal is to convey San Francisco's industrial waterfront through their furniture, artwork and décor.
The Hilton isn't the only hotel to experience a transformation. The Radisson Hotel at the Fisherman's Wharf underwent an acquisition by Pebblebrook Hotel Trust in 2013 and is now the Hotel Zephyr, another boutique hotel.
The draw for boutique hotels lies in their hip, unique designs, which make guests feel special, paired with excellent bars and restaurants. The trend for boutique hotels is expected to continue. Major “brand hotels†such as Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. and Best Western International Inc. are announcing plans to create their own brand of boutique hotels.
