Streamlining the Check-in Process at Hotels
It is no surprise that technological influence is making its way into the hospitality industry, specifically hotels. One common complaint of the past is the hassle of going through the check-in process when you finally arrive at your destination. Who wants to wait in line at the hotel desk after landing from a six-hour flight with their baggage and restless children just to check into their hotel?
To streamline the check-in process and keep up with other industries, the hospitality industry is looking to make some serious moves towards change. Hotels across the globe are hoping to speed up the check-in process in a similar fashion as airlines have. Whether you are flying internationally or locally, you can now check in, select your desired seat, and have a digital boarding pass in the palm of your hand. Smartphone applications are available for nearly every airline, which is expected of hotels in the near future.
In order for hotels to speed up the check-in process, they must find a way to securely assign digital hotel room keys to their guests' smartphones. Starwood Hotels and Resorts and Hilton have already started the movement, allowing their guests to unlock their doors with the simple click of a button. Other strategies for streamlining the process include checking in and handling everything on your smart phone, but picking up the traditional room key at the front desk by simply showing your ID. Soon, every hotel you visit will have an accompanying smartphone application, allowing you to pass by the crowds and enjoy convenience at its finest.
