Learn how one hotel industry veteran is revolutionizing how sheets and pillowcases are managed in a hotel setting.
Richard Ferrell, President of Pürlin, LLC is changing the face of hotel laundry management as we know it. Rather than laundering his company's linens, they are completely recycled. The linens are made of high-quality microfibers and designed to simulate the feel of cotton. When the used linens are heated to over 500 degrees Fahrenheit, they liquify and become the ingredients to make brand-new sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers, and so on. This, in turn, means that this laundry management system produces zero waste.
Not only does this system have major implications from an environmental standpoint, but it is also a game changer from a cleanliness and sanitation standpoint. Ferrell notes, €œYou will never sleep on a sheet or pillow case that anyone has ever used. It is a paradigm shift that will change the way hoteliers and travelers think about bed linens.€
In a typical laundry operation, the quality of linens diminish as they are washed time and time again. Additionally, it is sometimes impossible to remove stains from the linens, leading to the disposal of the damaged item. Rather than this endless cycle of waste, each Pürlin sheet is completely fresh, hypoallergenic, and saves water. As an ideal fit for green hotels, Ferrell expresses his belief that hotel guests will actually view his innovative linens as an amenity.
A recent analysis done for the Las Vegas hotel market, revealed that switching over to Pürlin linens could save approximately 850 million gallons of water every year. Additionally, switching over to these linens would be cost effective for the hotel owner as well. The purchase price of the linens will be below what hotels typically spend on purchasing and maintaining bedding. Furthermore, because the linens are recycled after every use, hotel owners do not have to worry about the expense of replacing damaged or worn linens ever again.
€œWe have figured out a way to stop wasting fresh water, provide the guest with soft, hypoallergenic sheets, while simplifying the hotel laundering operation. -Ferrell summarizes. €œThis will forever change hotel laundry.€
