The movement to go green and be more eco-friendly has finally been making strides in the hospitality industry. In fact, many hospitality brands have made a vested effort to implement new, environmentally friendly business operations. Here are some of the brands who are specifically cracking down on plastic waste. Edition Hotels Edition hotels has introduced a new initiative to cut single-use plastic from its operations. The initiative, named €œStay Plastic Free, -sets a goal for all Edition hotels to be 100% free of single-use plastic by the end of Q1 2019. The program will provide vendors that supply alternatives to plastic for everything from minibar items, coffee cups, straws, water bottles, bathroom supplies, and food containers. Edition hotels is also looking to produce a short film highlighting how the hospitality industry's use of single-plastic affects the environment. AccorHotels €œPlanet 21 Day -is AccorHotels's annual day of action to promote sustainable development. In honor of this day, the brand launched its newest global and regional commitments in support of sustainable hospitality operations. The brand pledges to prohibit the use of plastic straws in all it's North and Central American hotels starting in July. Many of the brand's properties have already implemented strategies to eliminate plastic straw usage. Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts also pledged to end their use of single-use plastic. The brand's Earth Day 2018 theme was €œEnd Plastic Pollution, -and it highlighted the negative effect that plastic waste has on the environment and marine ecosystems. The brand has plans to phase out its use of disposable plastics by Earth Day 2019. This will include plastic straws, water bottles, and disposable cutlery.
