California is now years into a serious drought. As the state has implemented more and more water restrictions even while encouraging further cutbacks, individuals and businesses alike have had to hunt for creative ways to conserve water.
Shore Hotel is on the cutting edge of intelligently approaching the serious water shortage facing the state. The Santa Monica hotel got its start four years ago, just when the drought was starting, too. As the drought has deepened, the LEED Gold certified hotel (the only one in Santa Monica) has had to look for new ways to be sustainable even as it maintains its status as a luxury property.
By calling on AquaRecycle, a laundry water recycle system, they are able to balance eco-friendliness with their luxury brand. Through the installation of this system, they are able to slash their laundry water usage by 80 percent. What's more, the system also helps them reduce carbon emissions.
AquaRecycle makes it possible for Shore to reclaim and reuse the water that would otherwise go to waste after being used for the hotel's laundry. It's no surprise, then, that with AquaRecycle and their LEED certification on their site, this luxury hotel received Santa Monica's 2015 Sustainable Quality Awards Grand Prize.
