Starwood Hotels hit many milestones in 2015.
At the end of 2015, Starwood Hotels & Resorts had 220 new hotel franchises and management agreements, which is a 26 percent increase from 2014. 2015 marked the sixth consecutive year of increased signings for Starwood and the most incremental signings in the history of the business.
Starwood also opened 105 hotels in 2015, which included about 22,500 rooms in 30 different countries, which is the highest number of openings in the history of the company. 2015 brought the highest number of organic openings and signings in a single year for Starwood. The company saw balanced growth in both emerging and mature markets, with a notable increase in the number of conversions. Around 1/3 of all of Starwood's openings in 2015 were conversions.
Just over 50 percent of the signings in 2015 were driven by mid-market or select-service segments. Even though Four Points by Sheraton is the largest pipeline in the company, Aloft enjoyed solid growth momentum, with a 65 percent increase in the number of signings over 2014.
Starwood also worked to lengthen their lead in the lifestyle and luxury segment, with almost 30 deals across its W Hotels, The Luxury Collection, and St. Regis brands, which is an increase of almost 40 percent over 2014. In the upper-upscale segment, Starwood's largest global brand, Sheraton, saw a signing increase of over 40 percent in 2015 compared to 2014. Tribute Portfolio, the company's newest brand, finished 2015 with 16 hotels either with a signed agreement or operating. 2015 was the strongest year of organic openings for Starwood, allowing them to reach many milestones, including the 700
