Tips to Keep Your Hotel Running During Renovations

How to continue hotel operations during a renovation project.

Renovations are an important and unavoidable part of a hotel's lifecycle.  For instance, you may need to renovate to improve your hotel's design, to repair damage or wear and tear, or to comply with new brand standards.  Typically, hotels need to remain open during renovations so the property continues to bring in revenue.  However, this can create an unpleasant experience for guests unless you take special measures.  Here are some of the things that you can do to create a better environment for your guests during a renovation.

  1. Plan Ahead

Before undertaking your renovation project, you should review your hotel's occupancy trends to determine when your off-season is.  The off-season is the best time to begin renovations as it will reduce the number of guests you are inconveniencing.

  2. Work in Sections

If you need to renovate your rooms, then work one section or floor at a time.  This will ensure that there are still rooms open for guests to stay in.  When booking guests, you should make sure to keep them as far from the construction as possible.  If you have no choice but to book guests in rooms near the renovation work, then offer them discounted rates to compensate for the inconvenience.

  3. Schedule Quiet Hours

You should also be careful to schedule quiet hours where construction work ceases for the night.  You should also try to schedule the noisiest work to take place between check-in and check-out hours (usually between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.).

  4. Organize a Complaint System

During renovations, you should anticipate disgruntled guests by setting up a complaint system ahead of time.  Designate one staff member to specifically manage guest complaints and develop a system to ensure that every complaint is communicated with management.  While you probably won't be able to address every complaint, do your best to appease the guests in any way possible.

These are some of the suggestions that you should try to create a better environment for your guests while undergoing renovation.  Do you need help with your hotel renovation project?  If so, then contact Nancy Nguyen at Parkwest General Contractors.  Our dedicated team is eager to assist you with all your building upgrade needs today.
