A Linda Isle house that was featured in Architectural Digest four decades ago and recently rebuilt has sold for $20 million, the 2nd highest price of publicly listed Orange Country estate sale this year (2016).
This contemporary 6,788-square-foot house is located in a gated community in Newport Beach, has 113 feet of bay and dock, and has a great view of the harbor and turning basin.
The house was designed by architects Carlton graham and Gallo Builders. They came on the Multiple Listing Service in April at an asking price of $24.995 million.
Its sale this week made it the most expensive estate sale for a Newport Beach home in the MLS sale ever in Linda Isle. Linda Isle is a prestigious horseshoe-shaped community of bayfront homes with private docks.
The priciest Orange County home sale on the MLS this year was a Laguna Beach estate with two promontories extending hundreds of feet literally into the Pacific Ocean. It sold for nearly double the amount this Newport Beach house did at a mind-numbing amount of $45 million. (At least mind-numbing for this writer.)
A 2014 tour of the old house revealed 18-foot-high, double entry doors, dark and heavy beams, and a wooden cantilevered stairway leading to empty spaces with old carpeting and very bulky and dated accents. This may sound like a terribly designed house, but back in the 1970s, it was heralded by Architectural Digest as a “visual excitement.â€
Today, the four-bedroom house includes high ceilings, formal dining room, and open floor plan, hardwood and travertine floors, fireplaces in the living room and master suite, island kitchen, and an elevator–because why not?
